Daoji Li
Professor
Prof. Daoji Li is a marine scientist studying biological oceanography, estuarine and coastal ecosystems and marine environmental science. He is a doctoral tutor in State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research and Director of East China Normal University Plastic Marine Debris Research Centre. He has over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He is the director and deputy secretary general of Shanghai Society for Oceanology and Limnology. He is member of Jiu San Society of the Shanghai Municipal Committee, chairman of Jiu San society of East China Normal University Committee, member of the Shanghai Minhang District CPPCC. Now he is the principal scientist of the National Key Research and Development Program: Marine Microplastics Monitoring and Ecological Risk Assessment Technology Research Project (2016YFC1402200). China is the largest plastic producer and consumer in the world. Microplastic concentrations have been proved to be statistically and positively correlated with population density and proportion of urban/suburban development. The overall philosophy of the science is to monitor marine microplastic in China and develop risk assessment standards. His approach is to establish categorization standards and diffusion models to understand source, fate and spatiotemporal variations of microplastics, and to evaluate environmental risk in coastal areas and design source control technologies.
